Much like the previous album, here we’ve got another Progressive Neoclassical release with a ton of Power and Symphonic Metal influence. Compositions are lush with layers of guitarwork, keys, synths and atmospherics.
All the music is played to clinical precision. Songwriting is strong and varied, with tons of shifts in speed and tonal style. The compositions are interesting in many ways, both in the multi layering of instruments and the unforeseen twists and turns each song attempts to take you on. And you bet these guys can play their instruments; impressive displays from each member pop up more than a few times across the album.
By rights, it seems like an album I’d adore. But like the previous two, it lacks something very important. Hooks! I don’t mean poppy vocal hooks. I just mean ANY hooks. None of the guitar leads are memorable, the riffs fall to rhythmic chugging most of the time, the synth melodies are nice but always take a back seat, and yeah, the vocals don’t provide any hooks either.
That’s a massive weakness, BUT all the strengths I mentioned prior are still going very strong. So, the album is still pretty great, but it can’t be more than that.

심포니엑스의 음반도 굳건히 자기들의 색깔을 꾸준히 유지하는 밴드중 하나라고 생각한다.
이앨범에서도 그들 특유의 느낌은 그대로라고 생각된다.
시원시원하게 시작하는 스모크 앤 미러 , 코러스가 멋진 처치 오브더 머신
대곡 트루더 룩킹 글래스 에서는 프로그래시브한 맛도 기꺼이 느낄수있다.
앨범 제목도 그렇고 그들이 원래 풍기던 느낌, 키보드의 성향이 합쳐져
고대 그리스 에 와있는 느낌마저 들게 하는 좋은 음반이다.
이 앨범엔 드러머가 잠시 탐 월링으로 바뀌어있는데.. 느낌은 뭐 제이슨 룰로와 큰 차이는 없게
느껴졌다.

Another excellent album. This album brings extremely current themes, such as the domination of machines over people, in "Church of the Machine", a theme that would be explored again in the band's future. All in all, it's a great album, despite not surpassing its predecessor.

직전앨범의 광대한 서사시를 이어받아서 클래식에 기반을 둔 프레이징과 유니즌 플레이가 여전히 초중반 심포엑스의 마력을 자랑한다

심포니엑스의 최고작이라 생각하는 앨범이다. 고급스럽고 세련됬지만 귀에 잘 들어오는 멜로디로 처음부터 끝까지 지루할틈 없이 감상할 수 있는 앨범이다. V앨범부터의 작품들에 비해 아직은 바로크메탈적인 느낌이 많이 남아있는 앨범이다. 앨범 쟈켓도 최고로 멋지다.

개인적으로 이 앨범의 드럼 톤을 더 선호합니다. 7집부터 공간감이 좀 넓어지면서는 상관없는 이야기가 되었지만. 전작보다 좀 더 넓은 느낌의 사운드로 살짝 편하면서도 그 특유의 클래시컬함과 강력함이 매력적인 작품.

차가우면서 선동적인 분위기의 2번곡이 매우 멋지다.8번곡은 candlelight fantasia에 비견될만한 명품 파워 발라드.

Symphony X 앨범에는 평작이 없다. 이 앨범과 같은 명반 혹은 그를 뛰어넘는 초명반이 존재할 뿐이다.
다만 마지막 트랙은 없는편이 더 나았을 것 같다는 생각이든다.

이 앨범을 접한건 약 5년전쯤이지만, 최근에서야 다시 듣기 시작했다. 그 동안 내 음악 성향이 얼마나 성장하고 달라졌는지 느낄 수 있었다. 이 앨범이야말로 Symphony X의 최고작이다.

많은 사람들은 남들의 평점에 너무나 연연하며 자신의 평점도 매기는 듯 하다. 이 앨범이 3, 5 집보다 부족한 점이 도대체 뭐가 있나?
