Metallicas second best album by a long shot. jameses vocals on this are just insane. kirks guitatr work was a little sloppy but he joined the band very shortly before the recording of the album so its understandable. if he had more time he could have made the album a lot better but its still really fuckin good regardless. daves guitar work echos throughout the album and i kinda wish he wasnt kicked out before they recorded this. daves demo takes and old live versions would have made it so much better

Metallica의 거칠게 질주하는 처녀작인 "Kill 'em all, 싹 다 죽여라"는 참 귀에 나름 잘 감기는 앨범이다.
라이브셋에서 빛을 발할 거 같은 Hit the light으로 시작하여, The four horsemen으로 달음박질 하다가 Motorbreath에서 그 출력을 최대치로 올려주는 것 같다. 러닝을 하며 본 작을 들을 때, 체력이 떨어져서 속도를 줄여야 할 거 같을 때 Motorbreath를 들으면 정말 기적같이 다시 속도를 내게 된다. 미친듯 치닫다가 갑자기 바운스가 통통대는 Jump in the Fire가 뒤이어 나오면 다리 힘이 풀리곤 했다. (Jump in the Fire에 대한 지극히 개인적인 의견으로는, 사실 좀 맥이 빠지기도 하고, 쓰래쉬메탈의 범주라고 보기에는 어색하긴 하다.)
첫 네곡에서 처녀작 치고 리프에서 느껴지는 이유모를 세련미는 데이브 머스테인의 것이었다 생각되었다. 왼손 손가락이 거미처럼 움직이게 하는 그것 말이다. 그 뒤에 이어지는 Pulling Teeth는 베이시스트로 악기연주를 시작헀던 나에게는 정말 황금같은 곡이다.

스래시메탈의 대부이자 세계에서 가장 유명한 메탈 밴드 Metallica의 첫 Studio Full Length 앨범 Kill ‘Em All 입니다.
곳곳에서 느껴지는 동시대 최고의 라이벌 Megadeth의 기타리스트 Dave Mustain의 손길과, 제임스 헷필드의 날것 그대로의 보컬이 조화를 이루어 신나는 스래시메탈 걸작이 탄생하였습니다.
훗날 등장할 Slayer의 Reign In Blood 식의 어둡고 헤비한 스래시메탈보다는 상당히 가벼운 느낌을 주는 것이 특징입니다. 굳이 따지자면 Slayer의 3집은 난폭하고 강렬한 스래시인데 반해 본작은 신나게 질주하는 하나의 야생마같은 스타일입니다
그러나 전체적인 완성도 면에서는 해당 밴드의 후속작 Ride the Lightning에 밀리는 감이 있고, 영향력 측면에서도 3집 Master of Puppets에 비할 바는 되지 못한다고 생각합니다.
특히나 5번 트랙같은 경우 2집의 The Call of Ktulu, 3집의 Orion에 비해 현저히 낮은 완성도와 더불어, 작품 전체적으로도 그다지 필요한 Instrumental Track이라는 생각은 들지 않았고, Interlude로 간주하기에는 너무 긴 길이였습니다

My 1110th most played album. Metallica - Kill 'Em All. The debut studio album was released on July 25, 1983. This was the start of thrash metal, very shocking at the time! The album did not enter the Billboard 200 until 1986, when it peaked at number 155, the 1988 Elektra reissue peaked at number 120. Now 3 times platinum! My 5th most played Metallica. Great songs, "Seek & Destroy", "Jump in the Fire", "The Four Horsemen" and "Whiplash". I also really like the bonus cover songs. "Am I Evil?" (Diamond Head cover) and "Blitzkrieg" (Blitzkrieg cover). Every song on the album is great, play it loud!

Kill ‘Em All is a mixed bag for me. On one end, it’s got some amazing music that was revolutionary at the time. On the other end, it doesn’t hold up all that well. For a Thrash Metal album, it’s incredibly lighthearted. They’ve got…(2?) songs on here that are just about playing music, they’ve got one about going to hell but it’s carried by an incredibly uptempo riff, and . Basically, real generic stuff you might find on a Nickleback album. The introspective and literature-influenced lyrics of Ride the Lightning are nowhere to be found here, and it really matches the all-around mood, which is not serious at all. As I said, it’s lighthearted, and if I’m listening to Thrash… that’s the last thing I want.
Aside from those weaknesses though, it still was one of the heaviest albums of its time, and it really had no tracks that were bad by any means. The B side is where they really shine, I think. Phantom Lord has great riffs and solos, and stays fast-paced throughout. No Remorse is one of my favorite Metallica tracks, and trudges through slower, darker riffs until breaking out in their fastest finale ever. No one would question the fantastic guitar fest of Seek & Destroy and closer Metal Militia. James’ vocals here are also more savage than ever. I can’t say I prefer them because his voice always sounds fantastic, but this side of them is certainly a treat.
Overrated, but still a great record.

A pretty cool, raw sounding album. A bit lower on my list of the classic Metallica albums. Still good regardless.

85-90 1,2집은 물론 그 이후에도 머스테인의 냄새가 나는데 이 앨범은 더더욱 난다. 애초에 스래쉬 센스는 머스테인이 다 갖고 있었던게 아닐까 싶다. 햇필드는 사실 알고 보면 또다른 성향이었을 듯. 오늘따라 2번의 애들립이 다르게 느껴지는 날이다. 아주 훌륭한 1집인 건 맞다. 당시를 생각하면 초기작들은 참 신났었던 기억이 가득하다.

메가데스 1집과 더불어 메탈리카 1집도 아직 설익은 느낌이랄까.... 물론 다음 앨범부터는 내공을 보여주는 앨범들이 줄줄이라.... 워낙 이펙트가 커서 그런지 1집이 한없이 작게 느껴진다....

Classic debut that still sounds good today. "Hit The Lights", "Seek and Destroy", "Whiplash", "The Four Horsemen", "Jump in the Fire" are all still great. The line "Full speed or nothing" in "Motorbreath" would later appear in "Lux Æterna" on "72 Seasons", and is as true today as it was then.

메탈 밴드들 중에 데뷔 앨범부터 뛰어난 기량을 보여주는 경우는 그렇게 많지 않다. Metallica는 보기 드문 예 중에 하나다.

Some high highs and some low lows. Seek and Destroy, although overplayed, is still great. Four Horsemen is tremendously underrated in my opinion. And I might be biased as a bass player, but I absolutely love Anesthesia.

메탈리카 앨범 중에서 개인적으로는 가장 좋아함. 녹음 상태는 별로지만, 추후의 앨범들보다 훨씬 매력적이고 귀에 쏙쏙들어오는 리프 + 비교적 간결한 곡진행으로 훌륭한 스레쉬 메탈의 전형을 들려줌
