The Beginning of Brutal Death Metal of True Meaning...
분명히 Old School Death Metal 을 들려줬지만 Florida 의 Deicide 와 Cannibal Corpse 가 Brutal Death Metal 의 초석을 만들었다면 New York 출신인 Suffocation 은 Brutal Death Metal 의 방향성을 제시하였는데 그 방향성의 중심에는 Death Metal 의 Alchemist 인 Scott Burns 가 있었다. Scott Burns 는 Deicide 와 Cannibal Corpse 와의 제작 경험을 바탕으로 Suffocation 을 통해서 Brutal Death Metal 이 추구해야 할 Sound 를 만든 셈이다. 물론 Band 의 연주력이 뒷바침이 되어야 이것이 실현이 가능하다. Drum Snare Touch 와 Guitar 주법으로 Brutal Death Metal 의 장치를 파악할 수 있지만 Suffocation 이 연주하는 음악은 여전하게 분명한 90년대 초반의 Old School Death Metal 이다. 속도를 유지한 완급조절과 지나치게 반복되지 않고 늘어지지 않는 Riff 와 Fill in 그리고 Guitar Solo 의 등장이 Suffocation 의 Death Metal 에 대한 탐미를 보여준다.
분명히 Old School Death Metal 을 들려줬지만 Florida 의 Deicide 와 Cannibal Corpse 가 Brutal Death Metal 의 초석을 만들었다면 New York 출신인 Suffocation 은 Brutal Death Metal 의 방향성을 제시하였는데 그 방향성의 중심에는 Death Metal 의 Alchemist 인 Scott Burns 가 있었다.
