Judas priest의 Rob Halford가 심각한 노쇠화를 겪고 있는 지금, 헤비 메탈 계에서 아직도 현역으로 활동하면서 현역 당시의 그 역량을 보여줄 수 있는 베테랑 보컬리스트 한 명이 또 줄었다. 이제 기대를 걸 만한 것은 역시 Iron maiden의 Bruce Dickinson 뿐일런지 하는 생각이 든다. 1958년생으로 Rob Halford보다 7살 연하인 Bruce Dickinson은 꾸준히 건재한 모습을 보여주고 있어 다행스럽게 여겨 왔었던 게 사실이다-사실 50 넘긴 사람이 저런 목소리 내는 것도 일종의 사기가 아닐 수 없다는 게 개인적인 생각이긴 하지만...-. 하지만 2006년 발표한 [A matter of life and death] 에서 그가 보여줬던 모습은 상당한 우려로 다가왔다. 그러나 Iron maiden은 그런 우려를 불식시키기라도 하려는 듯이 2009년 라이브 앨범을 한 장 뽑아냈고, 그 라이브 앨범이 바로 [Flight 666-The original soundtrack] 이라 하겠다.
[A matter of life and death] 앨범에서 Dickinson은 힘에 부치는 게 역력하다는 느낌이 드는 보컬을 팬들에게 들려줬다. 결정적으로 Iron maiden의 앨범을 듣고 있노라면 이어폰을 부술 듯이 강력한 샤우팅을 뿜어내던 Bruce Dickinson 특유의 그 성량 자체가 확 줄어들었다는 느낌이랄까. 고음역 자체도 전반적으로 그 앨범보다 3년 전인 [Dance of death] 앨범 당시보다 좀 더 위축된 느낌이 ... See More
