90년대초 얼터너티브 록의 범람은 그동안 주류 메탈 밴드로서 위상이 높았던 밴드들마저 휘둘렸다. 중소 메탈 밴드들이 그러한 흐름에 휩쓸리지 않았던 것에 반해, 대형 밴드들은 여지없이 휘둘렸다. 숱하게 많은 밴드들이 대중 음악 시장의 판도 변화에 민감하게 반응했다. Anthrax 또한 세태 변화에 빠르게 적응하고자한 밴드 중 하나였다. Metallica나 Megadeth, Slayer를 제외한다면 아마도 Anthrax는 미국에서 가장 인지도가 높은 스래쉬 메탈 밴드였을 것이다. 하지만, 그들조차도 록음악 시장의 지각변동에는 속수무책일 수밖에 없었다. Anthrax는 Persistence of Time에서 밴드 특유의 유머를 덜어내고 보편적인 스래쉬 메탈의 파괴성을 담지하면서 이미 상당한 변화를 감행했다. 그러나 후속작 Sound of White Noise에서는 그 이상의 획기적인 변화를 단행하여 기존 팬들에게 충격을 안겨주었다.

No es el Anthrax al que estábamos acostumbrados, pero el trabajo es bueno por muchas razones. Las guitarras suenan punzantes con riffs equilibrados, el bajo muy trabajado y Benante está superior, más la nueva voz de Bush... Donde está el problema? Un trabajo muy recomendable de escuchar.

A fair drop in quality to Groove/Alt Metal, but this album isn't without its merits, and actually contains no truly bad songs.

prvé album s novým spevákom - John Bush. Zo všetkých albumov s ním aj najlepšie. Možno je to aj prítomnosťou Dana Spitza. Štýlovo je to mix starších prvkov s novými, taký mix crossover/alternative/heavy metal

새로운 보컬 존부쉬와 함께 새로운 스타일의 anthrax 음악을 들려준다.그러나 예전 사운드를 즐기던 anthrax 팬들에게 외면을 받았다.존 부쉬는 훌륭한 보컬이라 생각하지만 anthrax와 안맞는다는 느낌이다.
