Pretty Maids는 데뷔 앨범에 이어 두 번째 작품 Future World가 성공하면서 헤비 메탈씬에 이름이 알려지기 시작했다. 이들이 앞서 발표한 두 작품은 멜로딕 메탈로 분류되고 있으나 세일즈 포인트면에서 동시대에 활동한 밴드들에 비해 뚜렷해 보이지는 않는다. Pretty Maids는 초기에 동시대를 주름잡고 있던 글램 메탈처럼 화려하기 보다는 견실함을 토대로 담백한 내용물을 담고 있다. 멜로딕 메탈이라고 해도 이들의 작품들에 글램 메탈과 같은 파퓰러한 성향은 거의 눈에 띄지 않는다. 세 번째 앨범인 Jump the Gun도 그런 기조에서 제작된 작품이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 하지만 전작과 비교해 헤비 메탈 팬들의 반응의 정도는 천양지차였다. 이 앨범이 어찌나 실패했던지 발표후 Ronnie Atkins와 Ken Hammer를 제외한 다름 멤버들이 밴드를 떠나버리고 만다. Ronnie Atkins는 수십년이 흐른 뒤에 술회하기를 과장된 프로듀싱이 이 앨범을 망쳤다고 했지만, 사실 이 앨범의 상업적 도산 이유는 알 수가 없다. Ronnie Atkins의 지적대로 Jump the Gun의 사운드는 매끈하기 그지없다. 트랙들의 수준은 전작과 비교해도 개인적으론 비슷한 수준이라 생각된다. Lethal Heroes나 Savage Heart, Young Blood는 이 밴드의 빼어난 역량을 보여주는 준수한 곡들이라고 보고 있는데, 본작은 전작과 전혀 다른 결과가 나왔으니 기이한 노릇이 아닐 수 없다. 굳이 찾아본다면 특유의 무난함 때문은 아닌지 모르겠으나 괜찮은 작품이라 생각되는 이 앨범의 과소평가는 안타깝게 생각된다.
