Alice Cooper has often said the Love it To Death album is the first true Alice Cooper album. The original band had put out two previous albums called Pretties For You and Easy Action which were more Nazz albums (the name of the band originally) that were more in the psychedelic genre than hard rock on Frank Zappa's label.
Zappa's label was purchased by Warner Brothers and they were uncertain about where Alice fit. The Cooper band already had a great live show (to this day the lead singer Alice Cooper is known for being the greatest live act in the business) but the first two albums were hard to define musically. Young producer Bob Ezrin became aware of the band and wanted to work with them. Tightening the sound and going more commercial and rocking harder, Love it To Death came out. Soon the band would have their first hit single, Eighteen and such classics as The Ballad of Dwight Frye.
From this point forward, Alice's popularity grew and the band put out some great albums really from Love It To Death thru Billion Dollar Babies. By Muscle of Love, however, the original band was tired and decided to do solo projects. By this point, the lead singer Vincent Furnier had become known as Alice Cooper and he always was the true talent in the band (no disrespect to the others who were good as well) and went on to a hard rocking, diverse, and great solo career while keeping his now legal name Alice Cooper.

This one is probably my favorite of the early Alice stuff. Great songs here.

This is a good balance of rawness but also Alice and the original band starting to learn how to put together a good three minute song.

This is my favorite of the original band albums (Love the original band but like solo Alice even more)
