Five Finger Death Punch는 Avenged Sevenfold와 함께 21세기 들어 가장 성공한 메탈 밴드 중 하나이다. 이들은 데뷔 앨범인 The Way of the Fist를 50만장이나 팔아치우며, 단번에 NWOAHM의 핵심 세력으로 떠올랐다. 현존하는 Heavy Metal 밴드들의 살아있는 신화로 군림하고 있는 Dream Theater의 미국내 판매량을 고려해 봤을때 갓 데뷔한 신인 밴드의 작품이 이정도나 많이 팔렸다는 사실은 그저 놀랍기만 하다. The Way of the Fist은 현재 Metalcore나 Groove Metal이 얼마나 잘 팔리는 아이템인지 새삼 깨닫게 해준다. 앨범 자체의 완성도는 그렇게까지 높다고 생각되지 않기 때문에 이 앨범의 상업적인 성공이 더욱더 놀라운 것이다. 그저 이 앨범은 미국 사람들이 좋아하는 Pantera 식의 그루브 감 넘치는 사운드에 헤비 메탈 특유의 멜로디 라인이 가미된 작품으로, 80년대 헤비 메탈부터 주욱 들어온 리스너라면 딱히 새로울 것도 없는 앨범이다. 단지 트렌드에만 충실할 따름이다. 멜로디 만큼은 정말 사람들의 귀를 사로잡을 만큼 잘 만들어졌다고 할 수 있겠지만, 전반적으로 이 앨범이 음반 판매량만큼 훌륭한 작품인지는 다소 의문이다.
