Additional notes
The name of the band was inspired by Celtic Frost's song "Sorrows of the Moon".

Started as a black metal band by the two Sorvali cousins. They started adding folk elements to their music eventually evolving into a pagan/folk metal band on their debut album "Suden uni". They have progressively blackened their sound again, starting with the "Verisäkeet" album.

Mitja Harvilahti and Markus Eurén initially joined as touring musicians from 2000 to 2001 before being added to the line-up on a full-time basis.

As well as performing as a touring guitarist since 2007, Janne Perttilä has provided choir vocals and handclaps on most of Moonsorrow's albums.

Ville Sorvali was a chief editor for Finnish metal magazine "Inferno" in 2001-2005.

Members also have a digital-only deathgrind fun project called Lakupaavi. Before releasing their 2005 album "Verisäkeet", they published information that their next album would be a completely different style, entitled "Raah Raah Blääh". Blabbermouth and some other medias believed this joke, and were subject to much ridicule. Moonsorrow, however, decided to go on and record this album, though under a different name.
