Amon Amarth의 네 번째 앨범 Versus the World는 그들이 데뷔 앨범부터 자신들의 음악 세계에서 줄기차게 나타난 비장미와 서정성, 웅장함 등을 그대로 계승하고 있다. 네 번째 앨범에서까지 비슷한 양식의 음악을 선보이는지라 자기복제가 심하다는 평도 있지만, Amon Amarth는 개의치 않고 뚝심있게도 자신들만의 방식을 고수하고 있다. 사실 Amon Amarth에 대한 비판은 그들을 좋아하는 임장에서도 수긍하게 만든다. 밴드의 변치 않는 스타일을 긍정하지만, 이들의 장점으로 인식하는 그 부분이 이들을 비판에 취약하게 하고 있다. 그런 이유로 이 앨범도 비판적인 시각을 견지한 이들에게 지겹게 느껴질 수도 있다. 하지만 본작을 잘 들어보면 이전 앨범들과 달라진 점 또한 눈에 띈다. 비장미를 강화하기 위한 사운드의 중량화는 이전 앨범들보다도 힘이 들어가 있다. 그 결과 신화 속 전사의 격정이 앨범 전체에서 들끓고 있는 듯하다. 사운드가 무게가 더해지면서 이전에는 선명하게 들렸던 멜로디가 Amon Amarth의 작품치곤 잘 안들어오는 측면이 있다. 그러나 Amon Amarth는 역시 Amon Amarth였다. 선명하게 드러나는 멜로디가 아닌 파워풀한 사운드 아래 은은하게 존재감을 풍겨오는 멜로디 메이킹의 힘은 역시 Amon Amarth답게 강렬한 인상을 남기고 있다.
