곡의 서막을 알리는 유러피언 클래식 피아노 멜로디의 명징함, 이윽고 얹혀지는 애수에 가득 찬 트윈기타의 하모니, 그리고 뒤를 잇는 고뇌의 철혈 보이스는 청자에게 결코 가볍지 않은 무게감을 안겨주는 동시에 메마른 감성을 촉촉이 적셔주기에 전혀 부족함이 없어 보인다. 또한 곡의 중심을 잡아주고 있는 드럼과 베이스의 리듬군은 과도하거나 부족함 없이 펼쳐지며 부드러운 곡 진행의 기승전결과 전체의 유기적인 연주와 어우러져 아름다운 합일의 하모니를 선사한다.

 

후반부의 내레이션에 연이어 터져 나오는 기타솔로, 키보드 솔로, 그리고 트윈기타와 키보드의 배틀, 유니즌 플레이는 이들의 타오르는 연주력과 음악적 센스에 의문을 품을 수 없게 만들며 청자들에게 회심의 넉아웃 펀치를 날려 버린다.

곡의 승부수, 핵심이라면 어레인지와 사운드 프로덕션을 꼽을 수 있겠는데, 이 결정적이라 할 수 있는 부분에는 많은 시행착오를 거친 듯 한, 리더 이상걸의 현재 진행형의 노련함이 짙게 베여있다. 본작에서 두드러지게 느껴지는 어레인지와 사운드 프로덕션의 진화는 Time Concerto의 정규 앨범에 대한 기대치를 한껏 높여주는 또 하나의 보증수표로서 자리매김했다 해도 과언이 아닐 것이다.

현재 타임 콘체르토는 정규앨범 작업의 피치를 올리고 있는 중이다. 그 험난하며 외롭고 고된 진행 과정 속에, 두 번째 단편을 피력하는 이번 싱글 Broken Faith는 동고동락을 나누고 있는 멤버들과 리더 이상걸의 희로애락 속의 번뇌를 가장 잘 표현한 노래가 아닐까 생각된다.

 

해외의 유수 밴드들과 견주어 보아도 전혀 모자람이 없다고 하면 본인의 과한 일방적 칭찬일지 모르겠지만, 분명히 짚고 넘어가야 할 점은 이들이 가진 가능성과 그리고 그 가능성을 지금까지의 결과물로서 팀의 이상향에 가깝게 발현해 냈다는 것이고 그 자체만으로도 음악적인 재능, 가치를 인정받기에는 충분하지 않을까.

 

다년간의 실험을 거듭해서 설립된 이상걸 본인의 작업실 Regain 스튜디오에서 진심으로 협력하는 유능한 멤버들과 어우러져 피와 땀의 결실로 녹음된 본 두 번째 싱글 Broken Faith의 강력한 선전을 바라며 앞으로 발매될 정규앨범에 국내를 비롯하여, 전 세계의 메탈 팬들로부터 쏟아질 관심과 찬사가 벌써부터 기대된다.
