Godsmack의 정규 7집인 When Legends Rise는 앨범 발매 사전 인터뷰에서 Sully가 말했 듯 기존과는 다른 사운드를 보여준다. 싱글로 나왔던 When Legends Rise, Bulletproof, Unforgettable은 여태까지 나온 Godsmack의 곡들 중 가장 접근하기 쉬운 싱글들이라고 할 수 있으며 또 하나의 싱글 Under Your Scars은 Sully의 감미로운 목소리를 들을 수 있는 락발라드로 신선한 모습을 갖추고 있다.
그렇다고 이들의 스타일이 완전이 선회한 것은 아니다. Take It to the Edge, Eye of the Storm을 비롯한 앨범의 후반부의 몇몇 곡들은 Godsmack만의 스타일이 잘 들어나있어 기존 팬들의 기대감도 어느정도 충족시켜주고 있다.
하지만 어딘지 모르게 Godsmack만의 정수가 느껴지지 않는다. 적어도 싱글로 선보였던 곡들은 기존의 Godsmack만의 파워풀하고 거침없는 모습을 찾을 수 없고 위에 언급한 두 곡을 제외하고는 Sully의 목소리에서 풍겨나오는 마초적 느낌이 배제되어있다. Godsmack하면 Sully의 우렁찬 목소리가 먼저 연상이 되는 필자로써는 이 점에서 아쉬움이 많이 남는다.
그래도 이런 점을 제외하고는 준수한 작품이기 때문에 이들의 추후 앨범은 어떤 모습일지 기대가 된다
