The autumn pu-erh is exhumed
From soaking soil
Silhouettes in black coats
Armed with a pickaxe and a shovel

They march through the night and rain
To the place where they buried
The delicious black pu-erh
Six feet under the blackest earth
A long time ago
With piety

The time is nigh to unburrow
Dark delights are scarce these days
All that’s left is trembling
An emptiness under the sun
A slow demise in a hasty world

On this splendid eve
The mellow taste of the tea
Becomes alive once again
It takes over from inside us
Like a Lovecraftian horror
The dark current flows
From the bowels of the teapot
Into the Chinese cups
We listen to Epistemological Despondency
