90년대 중반 W.A.S.P.에게는 무슨 일이 있었던 것일까? The Crimson Idol로 W.A.S.P.밴드 활동 경력에서 정점을 찍었다. 이 앨범에서 다루고 있는 서사적 깊이를 갖춘 스토리는 헤비 메탈 팬들에게 강렬한 인상을 남겼고, 향후 그들의 활동에 주목하게 했다. 그러나 밴드는 후속 앨범 Still Not Black Enough에서 이해할 수 없는 행보를 보이기 시작한다. W.A.S.P.는 초기 글램 메탈 사운드로 다시 회귀한 그들의 모습은 어째서 이런 시기에 이런 음악을 다시 할 생각을 했는지 의문이 든다. 이미 The Crimson Idol을 발표한 시점에 글램 메탈은 대안 록의 공습으로 숨이 끊어지기 직전이었다. 그러한 상황에서 W.A.S.P.가 왜 이런 앨범을 낸 것은 영문을 알 수 없다. Still Not Black Enough는 밴드가 완전히 탕아적 기질을 버리고 진지한 음악을 하는 밴드가 되었다고 생각했던 헤비 메탈 팬들의 생각에 일격을 가했다. 앨범 자체는 초기 앨범들을 모토로 하고 있는 만큼 흥겨운 편인데, 퀄리티는 사실 초기 앨범들을 따르지 못하고 있다. 그래도 이들의 W.A.S.P.의 초기 앨범들을 좋아하는 사람으로서 Still Not Black Enough는 썩 듣지 못할 물건 이라는 생각은 안 들지만, 왠지 이 앨범에서 사이드 앨범 같은 느낌이 난다는 평에는 공감한다.

라이센스나 대부분의 유럽반에는 11곡으로 6번에 퀸 커버 tie your mother down이 들어가 있다. 2도 제퍼스에어플레인 커버.미국반에는 13곡으로 ac dc 커버 whole lotta rosie 들어가 있다. 전작을 생각하면 아쉽긴 한데 그래도 무난한 이들의 앨범이다. 원래 전작과 같이 본인 솔로로 나올려고 했는듯. rock * roll to death는 좀 뜬금없다고 생각은 든다. 77점 정도

A good, consistent album. But doesn't even come close to The Crimson Idol. Scared to Death, Still Not Black Enough, Black Forever and Breathe are my favourites from the album. Keep Holding On seems like a rehashed version of Hold on to My Heart. The track Skinwalker found on some versions of the album happens to be one of the better songs on the album!

Not as strong as the past few W.A.S.P. albums, but it's still a very good Heavy Metal/Hard Rock album with that Glam Metal sheen.

결코 음악이 나쁘지는 않았다. 흥겨운 곡 진지한 곡 발라드 곡들 모두 하나씩 들으면 마음에 들고 흡족하다. 하지만 전작인 크림슨 아이돌을 워낙에 많이 듣고 나서 감상해서 그런건지, 앨범이 정규앨범 같지가 않고 남은 곡들 모아놓은 편집앨범 같다는 느낌이 많이 든다. 사실 이밴드 꾸준히 들은 청자라면 자기복제의 느낌도 강하게 느껴질 것이다...
