Eluveitie의 데뷔 앨범 Spirit은 흥겹고 듣기 좋은 앨범이다. 포크 메탈 특유의 토속적인 사운드와 멜로딕 데스 메탈의 탄력적인 리프와 저돌적인 진행은 조화가 잘 되어 있어 갓 데뷔한 밴드의 작품으로 치부하기 어려울 정도로 완성도가 높다. 하지만, 오리지널리티 측면에서는 충분히 이의제기가 가능한 작품이기도 하다. 아무리봐도 이 앨범은 Ensiferum과의 비교를 피하기는 어렵겠다는 생각이, 본작을 들으면 들을수록 자꾸만 든다. Spirit은 분명 신인 밴드의 데뷔 앨범으로서는 높은 완성도를 지닌 앨범이 아닐 수 없다. 하지만 이 작품은 아무리 들어도 신선함이라는 측면에서는 높이 평가하기가 그렇다. 물론 Eluveitie를 단순히 Ensiferum의 카피 밴드라는 사실은 성립되지는 않는다. 앨범의 전반부는 그렇다쳐도 후반부에 수록된 Tegernakô와 The Endless Knot는 이들이 Ensiferum과 일정부분 차이를 두고 있다. 이런 분석은 사실 이 앨범을 듣고자 하는 이들에게 있어서 불필요한 사항인 것은 분명하다. Eluveitie의 Spirit은 위에서 언급했듯이 흥겹고 듣기 좋은 앨범일 뿐이다. 음악을 듣는 것은 분석보다 즐거움을 얻기 위해서다. 불필요한 논의를 거칠것 없이, 좋은 작품이라는 사실은 분명하니 듣고 즐기면 그만이다.
