Historic Historical Source of Death Metal Scene...
Death Metal 을 감상하는 Listener 들에게 Death Metal 의 기원을 묻는다면 Possessed 라 대답할 것이다. 그런데 Death/Thrash 를 표방하는 Band 가 아니고서야 Death Metal Band 에서 Possessed 의 흔적을 찾기는 쉽지가 않다. 대부분 Band 'Death' 의 進一步된 기법을 계승하고 발전시켰다. 그래서인지 Death Metal 의 시초를 Possessed 로 볼 것인지 Death 로 볼 것인지 이견이 갈리기도 한다.
그런데 1991년에 발매된 Massacre 의 本作에서 Death Metal 의 시초가 Possessed 라는 증거들을 파악 할 수 있다. 악곡 속 Phrase 의 후반부에서 Possessed 를 계승한 흔적이 보이는데 특히 8번 Track 인 'Symbolic Immortality' 에서는 Possessed 의 기법들이 대거 포진되어 있다. 이러한 흔적들이 Death Metal 의 역사적으로 어떤식으로 발전되어 갔는지 파악할 수 있는 史料가 될 수 있기에 本作은 대단히 중요한 역사적 가치를 지녔다고 할 수 있다.
