아방가르드라는 분류에 걸맞게 굳이 메탈이라는 장르에 귀속시킬 수가 없는 음악을 들려주는 앨범이다. 익스트림 메탈로 유명한 노르웨이에서 만든 음악이라 다소 블랙스러운 분위기를 기대할 법 하나, 초기작에서의 어지럽고 과격한 블랙메탈 작법은 거의 드러나지 않는다. 토속악기나 현악기, 여성 보컬을 이용해 만들어내는 분위기가 압권이며, 그럼에도 불구하고 무엇을 표상하려 하는 것인지 알기는 힘들다. 각 트랙이 따로 노는 느낌이 들면서도, 전체적인 흐름이 결코 어지럽게 느껴지지는 않는다. 다만 메인보컬의 목소리가 약간 막힌듯 하여 붕 떠 있는 듯한 분위기를 형성한다. 어느 정도 동요처럼 느껴지는 멜로디에도 주목해 볼 수 있겠다. 다채로운 음악적 요소가 교차하는 White Frost Queen, 미들템포로 장중한 분위기를 조장하는 Crater of the Valkyries가 베스트 트랙.
