Scores of releases are based upon personal enjoyment (just as it should always be). My scale is as follows:

80 — 100 ➔ Highly enjoyable and all-time favourite releases
70 — 75 ➔ Very good with medium replay value
60 — 65 ➔ Acceptable with low replay value
40 — 55 ➔ Mediocre, underwhelming or I just don't care for it too much
1 — 35* ➔ Detestable junk (usually irritating, but some of it can also be quite humorous XD)

*I'm aware that on the Metal Kingdom one can't give scores that are lower than 40, but I will still make mention of them in my reviews/comments if need be.

preview  Skrape preview  New Killer America (2001) 70/100    May 27, 2025
New Killer America Skrape's "New Killer America" is an album that I remember seeing a lot back in the early 2000s. It always seemed to pop up in the weekly paper ads of electronic retail stores such as Best Buy and Circuit City (back then, all the latest releases came out every Tuesday.... do they still do that these days?). However, I didn't ever get the chance to listen to this album until just recently. Why did I put it off for so long? Huh, I'm not entirely sure, as I've always enjoyed Nu Metal and this seemed like it'd be right up my alley. Perhaps I was subconsciously repelled by the awful cover featuring that disgusting toe? (Or is that a thumb?). Well, whatever it was, I'm glad that I still eventually bothered to check out "New Killer America", as it's quite good, catchy Nu Metal (kind of like a mix ... See More
preview  Магнит preview  День Гнева (1989) 75/100    May 27, 2025
День Гнева It’s not every day that one gets the opportunity to listen to Metal made during the time of the former Soviet Union. The production on "День Гнева (Dies Irae)" is quite poor and reminiscent to the kind that you would hear on a low-budget Progressive Rock album from the 1970s, but in this case I can overlook it as the music itself has HEART and SOUL. What stands out the most are the lead guitar solos; they’re often beautiful, emotive and intricate, bearing a palpable Neoclassical flavor (á la Yngwie Malmsteen, or Ritchie Blackmore). I really love the opening track, “Работай (Work)”, which is early Russian Power Metal albeit with a rugged quality. “Мы живём, под собою не чуя страны (We Exist Without Feeling Our Land Underneath)” has a sl ... preview  Sevendust preview  Home (1999) 70/100    May 27, 2025
Home Sevendust’s sophomore release, "Home", might just be a step up from the self-titled debut, although it is not by much. Present here is “Denial”, which was a staple on a (now defunct) Alternative Rock radio station that I used to listen to a whole lot back in the early 2000s. I’ve always loved everything about this track; from the jolty percussion to Lajon Witherspoon’s angry yet melodic voice and that awesome chorus. Over two decades later, I still praise it as being one of the greatest songs that Sevendust ever wrote. Unfortunately, since the bar is set up pretty high with “Denial”, nothing else on "Home" really measures up to it. With that stated, there are some other enjoyable tracks here such as “Waffle”, “Grasp”, “Home” and “Insecure” (a little acoustic i ... See More
preview  Machine Head preview  Burn My Eyes (1994) 80/100    May 27, 2025
Burn My Eyes After Rob Flynn split from Vio-Lence he fully dedicated himself to Machine Head, of which he formed in 1991 with guitarist Logan Mader, bassist Adam Duce and drummer Tony Costanza (Attitude Adjustment's Chris Kontos wound up replacing him briefly after though). Machine Head produced a demo two years later, eventually getting signed to Roadrunner Records. Through this renowned label they released "Burn My Eyes" in 1994 (turning out to be one of Roadrunner's best-sellers). With Thrash Metal already undergoing a state of decline by this time, Machine Head opted to take the Groove Metal route that Pantera, Exhorder and Prong were molding just a few years prior. "Burn My Eyes" is an electrifying record, one that's loaded with heavy riffs and killer drumming (oh, and let's not forget those natur ... See More
preview  Salems Lott preview  Mask of Morality (2018) 75/100    May 12, 2025
Mask of Morality A very good debut from American Visual Kei ("what?!") band, Salems Lott, featuring many anthemic songs that pay homage to '80s Metal. My favorites are "When Heaven Comes Down", "You Can't Hide From The Beast Inside", "Shattered To Pieces", "Thin Ice", "Mother Of Chains" and "Alexandria's Genesis". By the way, whatever happened to this band? Haven't heard anything from them in six years now... (I remember reading an interview with them, and they appeared very skeptical of the entire music industry. Could they have called it quits?).

Funky as fudge. Also feels much more minimalistic than "Sailing The Seas Of Cheese".

Proggy and emotive MDM. This album took a little while for me to appreciate and enjoy, but now I can say I do. I even proclaim "Everfields" as the best Metal song of 2011 (if anyone can think of a better one, then I'd like to hear it).
Moonbow Rebellion preview  Isiliel preview  Moonbow Rebellion (2025) 70/100    Feb 10, 2026
I was going to add this album to the Metal Kingdom database along with "月虹創聖記 Moonbow Genesis", but wasn't able to as something else came up. Then like a day later, another member here suddenly added them both (what a strange, little coincidence). Anyway, "Moonbow Rebellion" is a worthy successor to the 2023 debut, and pretty much has the same epic Heavy Metal style (albeit with a better production).
Nodes preview  Synsnake preview  Nodes (2025) 70/100    Feb 8, 2026
While there aren't many major highlights, Synsnake's sophomore album is very consistent; there's nothing on here that I actively dislike or find tedious.
The Oncoming Storm preview  Unearth preview  The Oncoming Storm (2004) 65/100    Feb 8, 2026
Well-played Melodic Metalcore with quality production, but something holds it back. It's probably that most of the songs are forgettable, or just not that interesting to me. "Zombie Autopilot" and "Failure" are great though (that second song also makes me nostalgic for 2004, which was when I first heard it. I only listened to "The Oncoming Storm" in its entirety just a few years ago).
Muay Thai Ladyboys preview  Copremesis preview  Muay Thai Ladyboys (2008) 60/100    Feb 6, 2026
Before listening to this album, I was under the impression that it was going to be some type of "Pornogrind" slop (due to the cover.... which somebody here CENSORED in a funny way, ha ha). Turns out this is Death Metal of the brutal kind, which isn't too bad. Also, I initially thought the last track was going to be weird and experimental, since its length is 40 minutes, but nope; most of it is just silence (and a hidden track).
Royaume De Glace preview  Sombres Forets preview  Royaume De Glace (2008) 70/100    Feb 6, 2026
If you know me, then you'll already know that I don't think very highly of Canadian Metal (Voivod, Razor, Gorguts, Cryptopsy, Blasphemy, Strapping Young Lad etc. are all overhyped merde). However, I do find myself enjoying that country's Black Metal scene much, much more (particularly the stuff from Quebec). Gris' debut is commendable, and so is this album from Sombres Forêts.
Brave Murder Day preview  Katatonia preview  Brave Murder Day (1996) 65/100    Feb 5, 2026
Consistently decent, just not as amazing or emotive as "Dance Of December Souls".

Witchburner preview  Mercy preview  Witchburner (1985) 65/100    Feb 4, 2026
"I'm Your Pervert Priest" is a nunfucking classic (in all seriousness, the lyrics are pretty amusing). "Welcome To My Graveyard" picks up the pace a bit (deviating from the dominant Doom Metal sound present here) and is the second best track. I don't recommend Mercy's "Witchburner" unless someone is a massive fan of Messiah Marcolin (and wants to hear him in his pre-Candlemass days).
Campo de Extermínio preview  Holocausto preview  Campo de Extermínio (1987) 70/100    Sep 7, 2025
Back in the '80s, Brazil was a hotspot for aggressive Blackened Thrash/Death. I like this record more than the ones that Sepultura, Sarcófago, Vulcano, Mutilator etc. also released around this time. Crank it up, you lazy, uncreative, redundant, spammer pussies!
