Dehumanizer preview  Black Sabbath preview  Dehumanizer (1992) 85/100    Mar 15, 2025
Quite a good album, although I think Sabbath made a mistake in firing Tony Martin because the previous albums were clearly better. The album is really heavy and a bit slow, reminiscent of the albums from the first half of the band's career. The song material is strong in itself, there are no bad songs, but on the other hand there are no highlights either. "I" and "Computer God" are the best songs. A bit underrated perhaps, but not the band's best.
Rising preview  Rainbow preview  Rising (1976) 95/100    Mar 15, 2025
Rainbow leaves classic hard rock behind with their second album and begins to create the beginnings of the genre that would later be called power metal. The song material is practically perfect and the album features perhaps the strongest band line-up in history. The last two songs are pure masterpieces. If melodic old-school heavy metal with incredible vocal performances interests you, now you know where to look. Legendary!

Cryptic Writings preview  Megadeth preview  Cryptic Writings (1997) 75/100    Mar 14, 2025
A big disappointment after the brilliant "Youthanasia". A few good songs, such as the brilliant "Trust" and the Iron Maiden-like "She-Wolf". Otherwise, the level of the songs varies between mediocre and very weak and the album cannot be called a strong whole. Musically, it is already approaching hard rock and the whole band feels a bit lost. Not a disaster, but in my opinion, honestly one of the weakest Megadeth albums.
Century Child preview  Nightwish preview  Century Child (2002) 90/100    Mar 14, 2025
An extremely good album, although "Oceanborn" is a great album, I think classic Nightwish was born on this album. "Century Child" contains even more epic and massive music, while still keeping the common thread better than on the latest albums. The song material is great except for a few mediocre songs and the band really shines. Also Marco Hietala's debut. Underrated, definitely.

The End of This Chapter preview  Sonata Arctica preview  The End of This Chapter (2005)  [Compilation] 85/100    Mar 14, 2025
In terms of song material, it's a pretty good compilation of Sonata Arctica's career up to that point, but a few songs are missing; where is "White Pearl, Black Oceans..." or "Replica"? "Don't Say A Word" is also included as a single version, which is weaker than the album version in every way. Still, a decent collection and a good way to get to know the band. Great cover art, by the way.
Balls to Picasso preview  Bruce Dickinson preview  Balls to Picasso (1994) 85/100    Mar 13, 2025
Damn underrated. Bruce Dickinson's first real solo release has always divided opinions, but in my opinion it's a very strong start, full of interesting songs presented in a slightly different way than Iron Maiden. Grunge is clearly present but it's part of the era and in a way I love the musical direction of the album. "Tears Of The Dragon" is Bruce's most amazing song, an extremely beautiful power ballad. It's worth giving the album a chance, it's underrated.

Repentless preview  Slayer preview  Repentless (2015)  [Single] 85/100    Mar 13, 2025
Definitely the band's best song of the new era, along with "Bloodline". Unfortunately, in the 2000s, Slayer has only recycled old, once-working ideas with poor success. Sometimes veterans still succeed, and this song is a good example of that.
Screaming for Vengeance preview  Judas Priest preview  Screaming for Vengeance (1982) 90/100    Mar 13, 2025
Probably Judas Priest's most commercially successful album, and it's extremely good. The song material is brilliant, and if we forget the existence of "Pain And Pleasure" and "Fever", it's perfect. The "Hellion/Electric Eye" duo is still one of the greatest opening tracks in metal history. The production is tuned to exactly the level that a band of this class should have. And then there's Rob Halford. Absolutely phenomenal, a top-3 Priest album for me.

Queensrÿche preview  Queensrÿche preview  Queensrÿche (1983)  [EP] 85/100    Mar 13, 2025
One of, if not the most iconic EP of all time. Queensrÿche really shows their talent right from their debut release, dropping a 20-minute disc without any weak moments. Sure, the band is still finding their way on this album and there are no signs of progressive metal yet, but it's still an unabashedly strong start. And for those who don't know yet: Geoff Tate really rocks!
Afterlife preview  Dream Theater preview  Afterlife (1989)  [Single] 85/100    Mar 12, 2025
A good song, an excellent way to start a recording career. Of course, the band is still young at this point, and hasn't found their own unique way of making music yet (in this song, as on the entire debut album, DT sounds too much like a Rush copy to my ears), but that doesn't take away the fact that a good song is a good song, and especially the solo at the end is unbelievably wonderful.
