Power and Pain은 제목 그대로 힘과 고통이 그대로 음악으로 응축된 앨범이다. 프로덕션은 거칠고 또 거칠지만, 그것이 오히려 앨범의 매력을 극대화시킨다. 이 시기의 스래쉬가 지녔던 가장 순수한 미덕 즉, 과장 없는 분노, 질주하는 리프, 거침없는 드러밍, 기술보다는 충동에 가까운 연주가 이 앨범에 전부 녹아 있다. 특히, 트윈 기타가 아님에도 단 3인조 구성으로 만들어낸 밀도감은 인상적이게 다가온다. Tony Portaro의 리프는 원초적이면서도 캐치하고, Tony Scaglione의 드럼은 쉴 틈 없는 속도전으로 귀를 몰아세우며, Tony Bono의 베이스는 전체 사운드의 묵직한 중심을 형성하고 있다. 이 조합은 단순한 듯 보이지만, 거친 질감 속에서 강력한 추진력을 만들어낸다. I was really blown away by this excellent album. The band has a long history and started off this great with their debut but I never even knew they existed. I get the feeling this is seen as an essential for 80s thrash, and I fully agree.

album has an excellent line-up, no other band had three members with the same name. This is really consistent and aggresive Thrash Metal album with some very impressive moments and you can not stop headbanging for a second. Power and Pain characterizes Portaro's sloppy growls and screams, fast guitar lines/riffs and I must emphasize that music was extreme for the time.

속도나 공격성에 있어서 다른 어떤 스래쉬앨범에 뒤지지 않을만큼 훌륭함. 기타리프도 탁월. 밴드명을 동명의 Metallica 곡에서 따왔는지는 모르겠지만, 곡 진행방식 및 전체적인 분위기 등이 Metallica 초기와 흡사한 부분이 많음. 개인적인 취향으로는 못지않게 좋아함.

The album is striking and frankly gorgeous I think the band is bad at first But this album really blew me away The album was violent and the lyrics are good and also the playing is harmonious and the tuning is great and groovy and heavy too

Very aggressive and heavy Thrash that suffers from awful production. Otherwise, the riffs are absolutely top notch.

A very powerful first effort by Whiplash. It's yet another piece of evidence that, Old School Thrash, which germinated and proliferated during the 1980s, had a lot of originality and creativity flowing.
