밴드에서 핵심 멤버의 탈퇴는, 그 팀의 명운을 좌우하기 십상이다. 그와 같은 사태가 발생하였을 때, 그대로 밴드가 해체되는 경우도 비일비재할 정도로 심각한 위기를 불러일으키는 경향이 있다. 고딕 메탈씬을 대표하는 명반 Beyond the Veil을 발표한 뒤, Tristania는 그러한 위기에 직면하게 된다. 밴드의 리더인 Morten Veland가 어떤 이유로 탈퇴하게 되었는지는 현재까지 알려진 바는 없다. 단지 그가 탈퇴직후 결성한 Sirenia의 데뷔 앨범을 들어보면 음악 노선 변경이라고 추측되는 바가 있다. 양자를 같이 들어보면 Tristania의 경우 좀더 무겁고 심화된 고딕 메탈 노선을 추구하고자 했던 걸로 판명된다. 명반 Beyond the Veil의 뒤를 잇는 World of Glass는 이전 앨범들에 비해 확연히 무겁고 어두운 사운드 성향을 띠고 있다. 단지 좀 달라진 부분은 합창 파트가 늘면서 고즈넉한 분위기가 한층 강화된 측면을 보이고 있을 뿐이고 전작의 반경에 그대로 머물고 있다. 메인 송라이터가 탈퇴하면서 Tristania의 앞날을 부정적으로 점쳤던 사람들이 꽤 있었지만, 그들은 그리 흔들리지 않았다. World of Glass는 전작만큼 유명세를 떨친 것은 아니지만, Tristania라는 밴드가 소포모어 징크스로 침묵할 밴드가 아니라는 사실은 잘 증명해냈다.

Brilliant album that keeps changing things up while striking a great balance of everything. For example, there's a ton of different kinds of singing, but they never cram in too many vocals. Interesting all the way through and full of emotions & moods. Tristania were a truly great band while they were together, and this is my pick of the day for yesterday.

Wow this thing is underrated. Phenomenal Sympho Goth album that has everything you'd want in the genre.

뭔가 맴버가 갑자기 나간 후 나온 엘범이라 그런가... 여태까지 전 Tristania 엘범들에서 볼수 없었던 서정성과 전위성이 있습니다. 멜로디 라인과 가사에서 여태 없었던 절망감과 허탈감이 느껴집니다. 바이올린 솔로의 선율, 빡센 리프의 활용 과 일렉트로니카 등의 기타 요소도 맘에 드네요.
