New Moon is Swallow the Sun at their most atmospheric and emotionally heavy. The album moves between crushing death/doom riffs, fragile melodies, gothic melancholy and occasional bursts of black metal intensity without ever losing its bleak identity.
The strongest moments are the ones where beauty and heaviness collide: “Falling World” and the title track are hauntingly melodic, while “These Woods Breathe Evil” and “Lights on the Lake” show the band at their most powerful and dramatic. The album does occasionally drag, with a few songs stretching ideas further than necessary, but the atmosphere is so strong that it remains easy to get lost in.
It may not be their most consistent record, but New Moon has a cold, lonely character that rewards repeated listens. It feels less like an album you simply play and more like a place you disappear into for an hour.

최고의 데스/둠 앨범도, 최고의 Swallow the Sun의 앨범도 아니지만
데스/둠에 처음 입문하려는 사람에게 자신있게 추천해줄 수 있는 앨범.
이보다 뛰어난 데스/둠 앨범도, 이보다 멜로디컬한 데스/둠메탈 앨범도 많지만 정통 데스/둠의 사운드를 가장 적게 훼손한, 가장 멜로디컬한 앨범은 단연 이 앨범이 아닌가 싶다.
익스트림 메탈중에서도 가장 매니악한 장르인(깊이 파고들자면 퓨너럴 및 답도없이 컬트한 블랙메탈등 많기야하겠지만) 데스/둠 장르에서 드라코니안과 함께 아직까지 장르의 정통성을 내려놓지 않은 뚝심있는 밴드로, 정통적인 데스/둠의 사운드에서 타협하지 않는 선에서 최대한의 멜로디컬함을 표현해준 단연 최고의 앨범이라고 감히 말할 수 있는 앨범.
앞서말했듯 본 앨범보다 더 감성적이고 서정적이며 멜로디컬한 데스/둠 앨범은 많다.
다만 데스/둠 메탈의 교두보 역할을 가장 이상적으로 행할 수 잇는 앨범은 본 앨범이라고 어디까지나 개인적이지만, 자신있게 생각해본다.
데스/둠에 처음 입문하려는 사람에게 자신있게 추천해줄 수 있는 앨범.

I expected it to be good, but I didn't know there was going to be some top-tier black metal on it. Also, Aleah Stanbridge is on track 5 - another great point. Respect to Swallow the Sun for producing so much soulful music with melancholy and fury.

멜로딕 둠/데스메탈의 기본을 잘 보여주고 있다. 딴것보다 멜로디가 뛰어나고 서정적이다.
katatonia류의 둠메탈을 좋아하는 분들은 쉽게 접근할수 있을듯..
