80년대 후반부터 90년대 초반부에 접어들면 헤비 메탈의 열기가 조금씩 식기 시작한다. Skidrow를 필두로한 뛰어난 밴드들이 여전히 데뷔를 하고 있던 시기지만, 메탈 음악의 인기는 서서히 줄어들고 있던 것이다. Spread Eagle은 그러한 시대에 출사표를 던졌지만, 그리 주목받지 못하고 역사의 뒤안길로 사라진 밴드 중 하나였다. 이들은 글램 메탈 밴드로 분류되는 편이지만, 사실 글램 메탈 보다는 헤비 메탈 쪽에 좀더 가까운 쪽이 아닌가 싶다. 강철 같은 리프와 가공할 성량의 보컬이 시종일간 내쏘아 붙이는 보이스는 이 밴드를 글램 메탈 밴드로 보이지 않게끔 하고 있다. 이 밴드에서 특히 돋보이는 보컬의 역량 가히 무시무시하다. 전반적으로 이들의 음악을 재미있게 들었던 것은 아니다. 연주력이 나쁜 것은 아니었고, 리프도 괜찮게 들리지만, 치명적일 정도로 멜로디가 귀에 들어오질 않는다. 그러나 밴드에 대한 평범한 인상과는 달리 보컬의 어마무시한 포스는 상당히 귀에 잘 남는다. 이정도 역량의 보컬이 Judas Priest나 Iron Maiden급의 당대 최고 수준의 밴드에 몸을 담았다면 어땠을까 싶을 정도로 이 밴드의 보컬은 쉽게 잊혀질 수준이 아니었다. 하지만, 이 밴드가 활동한 시기도 그리 좋았다고 생각되지도 않으며, 그리고 팀 ... My most played album # 55. Spread Eagle- Self Titled. Released in 1990. As good as any Guns and Roses or Skid Row album this CD rocks! MCA signed them after just a couple of months of forming the band. The most popular song from the cd with 360 thousand views on Youtube with a video that was on MTV in the 90’s killer hard hitting rock! The second most popular song “Scratch Like a Cat” also with an MTV video and 150 thousand views is more high energy metal! They had to do a ballad and a great ballad. It was “Thru These Eyes” it’s the third most popular, 40 thousand views a great song but I like the rockers! My choice for #3 songs are the title track or “Back on the Bitch” two more killer songs! Oh heck play the whole CD, I did, 32 times this century, it rocks! Sadly the industry was closing down great metal in 1990 so this got overlooked by many but not me!
