흔히 메탈코어 하면 매니악한 리스너를 만족시키기 보다는 그나마 대중성을 확보하는 방향으로 생각되게 마련이고, 그래서 어느정도는 과소평가 되는 면도 있으며, 실제로도 일부 프로그레시브 메탈코어 밴드를 제외한다면 완성도나 복잡한 구성보다는 캐치함과 귀에 잘 들어오는 음악을 추구하는 경향이 있다. 이러한 요소들은 소위 매니아를 자칭하는 리스너들에게는 아니꼽게 보일만 한 요소들이다. 그러나 이 앨범만큼은 번뜩인다. 대중성을 놓치지 않으면서도 완성도있고 단순하지만 탄탄한 구성과 실력으로 마니아들마저도 매료시킬 만 한 예술성을 가졌다. 그리고 이 앨범의 가장 큰 캐릭터는 압도적인 박력과 그에 따라오는 막강한 카리스마이다. 마치 청자의 멱살을 쥐고 흔드는 듯한 느낌이며, 듣는 내내 머리를 흔들지 않을 수 없다.

New Albums를 통해 알게된 또 하나의 보석, Silent Planet의 정규 4집. Periphery를 처음 접했을 때의 신선함과 비슷한 느낌을 준 작품으로 근래에 들었던 Metalcore/Djent 앨범들 중 가장 충격적이라고 말하고 싶다. 해외의 여러 리스너들의 Album Reaction에서 언급한대로 이들의 독창성은 앞으로의 Metalcore 밴드들이 나아가야할 방향을 제시하는 안내서 역할을 해준다고 보아도 무방할 것 같다. 탄탄한 연주력과 클린/하쉬의 균형잡힌 보컬이 돋보이는 밴드로 이전엔 몰랐지만 친숙하면서도 번뜩이는 요소가 많은 이 앨범을 기점으로 이들의 행보를 눈여겨 볼 필요가 있어보인다.

Muldoon: "Clever boys..." Indeed. Those translucent riffs are out of this planet. I smell a bit of Kurt Ballou-ish segments, but not that much.

풀앨범으로 꼭 들어봐야 할 21년도 최고의 코어. 환상의 신스 활용과 최적의 기타톤으로 이 시끄러운 음악을 들으면서도 우주적인 분위기의 조용함과 황량함을 느낄 수 있게 해준다. 그야말로 Silent planet, 밴드 이름 참 잘 지었다.

Certainly a super respectable album, and this is coming from someone who doesn't enjoy metalcore that much. Djent element mixes in really well, packing the album with very solid punches.
