Shadows Fall의 3번째 정규 앨범으로 발매 첫주에 4.500 카피 이상 팔리며 Billboard Top Independent Albums chart 15위에 기록되었습니다. 라인업에 변동이 있는데 2001년, 드럼 David Germain이 알콜 중독으로 밴드를 떠나고 Jason Bittner가 들어옵니다. 전작과 마찬가지로 Chris "Zeuss" Harris가 프로듀서를 담당한 이 앨범은 이전 작품들과는 확연히 다른 사운드를 보이는데요, 데스메탈의 요소를 대거 없애고 발라드와 록, 스래쉬 사운드로 변모했습니다. 앨범의 제목은 멜로디와 공격성 사이의 균형을 암시하는 것이라고 하며 가사는 주로 정신을 파괴하는 힘에 대한 저항에 관한 것을 다루고 있습니다. 이 앨범은 각종 매체와 평론가, 팬들에게 찬사를 받았다고 하네요.

너무나도 사랑했던 앨범이다.
두 기타가 만들어내는 리프와 애드립은 매우 저돌적이면서도 캐치하며, 자주 들리는 피킹하모닉스는 고막을 찢는 듯 했다. 보컬이 단조로운게 흠. 이 다음다음부터 나온 앨범들과는 비교도 안 될만큼 신선하고 날카로웠는데 어쩌다 지금 꼴이 된건지...

미국발 모던 스래쉬의 전형적인 모습, 정통 스래쉬에서 찾아 볼 수 없는 메탈코어적인 그루브와 파퓰러한 클린보컬의 활용, 그럼에도 과거의 유산들이 잘 살아있는 앨범이다.
