Rivers of Nihil의 네 번째 정규 앨범 The Work는 프로그레시브 데스메탈 신(Scene) 안에서 단연 돋보이는 야심작이었다.

Rivers of Nihil's discography showcases a significant evolution in progressive death metal, particularly evident in their albums Where Owls Know My Name (2018) and The Work (2021). Both albums have garnered attention for their innovative approaches and have sparked diverse opinions among critics and fans alike.

This third studio album marked a pivotal moment for Rivers of Nihil, blending technical death metal with progressive elements. The incorporation of saxophone, atmospheric layers, and melancholic melodies distinguished it from their earlier work. Critics praised the album's maturity and experimentation. For instance, Metal Injection highlighted it as a "drastic step forward in progression and talent," noting the band's ability to surprise listeners with unexpected twists throughout the record.

However, not all feedback was unanimously positive. Some reviewers, like those at Sputnikmusic, found the album frustrating, describing it as "a journey of no significant impact and no revelations." Despite mixed reviews, Where Owls Know My Name achieved commercial success, debuting at number 61 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Following the acclaim of their previous album, The Work ventured into even more experimental territory. The band delved deeper into progressive and ambient sounds, with bassist Adam Biggs explaining that the title reflects the "physical, emotional, [and] spiritual work" involved in life's journey.

Critics had varied responses to this bold directio

Though I'm positive about the whole album, nothing touches the catchy perfection of that first track. Since that single was released I've been hoping for an album of equivalent material. Oh well, they surely tried. Also, I hope Jake finds something to do that really inspires him.
