90년대에 접어들면서 메탈 음악은 미국시장에서 주류음악으로서의 자리를 지키기 어려워졌다. 이러한 추세에 맞추어 수많은 메탈 밴드들이 살아남기 위한 변화를 과감히 감행했다. 그러나 Metallica나 Megadeth 같은 거물 밴드들의 위상마저도 흔들리는 상황에서 여타 군소 밴드들이 더 잘 견뎌내기란 어려웠다. 그 결과 수많은 밴드들이 무참히 스러져갔다. 반면에 대서양 연안의 경향과는 반대로 유럽 메탈씬은 발전도상에 서있었다. 영미권 메탈에 잠식되어 있던 유럽 메탈씬은 90년대에 접어들면서 스스로 일어설 준비를 하고 있었던 것이다. 예전에는 유럽의 밴드들은 영국이나 미국의 밴드들로부터 일방적으로 영향을 받았지만, 이번에는 그 반대 현상이 일어났다. 물론 이와 같은 현상이 보편적인 양상이었던 것은 아니다. 영미권 메탈씬이 위축되는 상황이니 만큼 신사조가 역수입되는 현상은 극히 드물기는 하지만, 개중에는 기억할 만한 밴드가 없는 것은 아니었다.

judas iscariot의 명성을 퍼트리게 도와준 앨범 Thy dying light다. Akhenaten의 실제 인터뷰를 들어보면 죽음에 대한 철학적 접근과 그에 따른 염세적인 사상이 짙은데 이런 사상은 블랙메탈 음악을 하는데 큰 공헌을 했다. 사운드는 다크쓰론 2집과 같이 건조하고 보컬은 으르렁 거리며 저가 하이햇을 치는 소리가 난다. 황량함의 표현을 담는데 있어서 최고의 밴드 중 하나.

처음엔 단조롭고 지루해했다가 들으면 들을수록 이 작품이 내포한 사악함과 염세적인 사운드에 점점 매료되어 허우적대었다. 귀에 우려낼수록 진해지는 사골같은 앨범이다.

극단적으로 건조하면서도 염세적인 느낌이 난다....
이 앨범이 미국에서 만들어졌다는 것이 믿기지 않을 정도. 다만 드럼 실력이 맘에 안 든다.
