Gorgoroth의 2000년작 Incipit Satan은 밴드가 전통적인 블랙 메탈 사운드에서 다소 벗어나려는 시도가 담긴 작품이다. 이전의 거칠고 공격적인 스타일에 비해 좀 더 실험적이고 다채로운 요소들이 가미되었으나, 그 변화가 팬들에게는 혼란스럽게 다가왔다. 전형적인 블랙 메탈의 냉혹한 분위기와는 달리, 앨범 전반에 걸쳐 다양한 리듬과 멜로디가 시도되며 밴드 특유의 원초적인 폭발력이 다소 희석된 느낌을 준다. 특히 곡 구성이나 프로덕션 면에서 Incipit Satan은 깔끔하고 정돈된 사운드를 지향하지만, 이로 인해 오히려 블랙 메탈 팬들이 기대하는 거친 느낌과는 거리가 멀어졌다. 또한 일부 트랙에서는 일렉트로닉한 음향 효과나 비틀어진 기타 톤이 눈에 띄어 전통적인 Gorgoroth의 사운드와 충돌하는 인상을 준다. 이런 변화는 기존 팬층에게 실망감을 안겨주었고, 밴드가 자신들의 정체성을 일시적으로 잃은 것처럼 비춰지기도 했다. 그 결과 앨범 전체가 다소 평범하고 진부한 인상으로 남게 되었으며, 이로 인해 기성 팬들 사이에서는 과거의 명성에 미치지 못한다는 평가가 잇따랐다. 팬들의 기대와는 달리 Incipit Satan은 오히려 Gorgoroth가 스스로 한계를 시험한 시기로 기록된다. 이 앨범이 Gorgoroth의 대표작으로 꼽히기에는 아직 부족 ... The title track is a real powerhouse opener, and track 3 has a nice minimally melodic approach. The quality goes up and down just a bit, but overall a very nice album with quite interesting riffing.

약간은 두서없는 중구난방적인 앨범이지만, 이들이 들려주는 엄청난 소리는 여전히 좋았다.

gaahl. 블랙메탈 보컬로서 상당히 카리스마가 있어서(잔인하고 조지는 그런맛이 아닌, 진중한 악마의 얼굴이랄까나) 공연을 보면 참 괜찮다. 하지만 gaahl 참여작품들은 상당히 이전 작품들에 비해 떨어진다. 이 앨범은 딱 평작 수준

gaahl이라는 노르웨이 블랙메탈계에서 maniac과 함꼐 없어져야할 수준 이하의 보컬이 king of hell이라는 희대의 사기꾼과 함께 합세하면서 사운드도 주제도 , 그외 모든 부분에서 완전히 망한 망작을 만들어냈다. 이런건 흔해빠졌다.
