아직 국내에서 Sludge / Stoner Metal에 대한 관심은 상대적으로 약한 편에 속하는 것 같다고 나는 자신있게 말할 수 있다. 그리고 난 그런 주장을 뒷받침할 증거로 이 밴드에 대한 무관심을 제시한다. 분명 이 밴드의 멤버 중에서 몇명의 이름은 많은 사람들의 눈에 익을 것이다. 심지어 몇명의 이름은 어떤이들에게는 단순히 '눈에 익는' 평범함의 수준이 아니라 엄청난 놀라움을 유발시킬 수 있을 정도일 것이다.
살인적인 리프와 폭풍 같은 임팩트로 순식간에 씬을 점령했던 Pantera, 펑크로 시작했지만 쓰래쉬를 비롯한 다양한 장르간의 퓨전을 성공시켜 자신만의 사운드를 구축하고 모던 메탈씬에 지대한 영향력을 미치는 Corrosion of Conformity, 1세대 슬러지 메탈 밴드로 불리우고 엄청난 완성도의 앨범들을 자랑하는 Crowbar 그리고 슬러지의 사운드를 둠메탈로부터 완벽히 분리해내며 슬러지 메탈의 탄생을 이끈 Eyehategod의 멤버들이 만나 탄생시킨 밴드가 바로 Down이다. 비록 완벽한 비유가 될 수는 없겠지만 이러한 조합은 Avantasia에도 꿀리지 않는다고 볼 수 있다. 다만 큰 차이점은 모든 멤버가 정식 멤버로서 송라이팅 작업에서도 각자의 영향력을 발휘한다는 것이다.
