Baroness의 Yellow & Green 앨범은 2012년에 발표된 이중 음반으로, 밴드의 사운드 스펙트럼이 더욱 넓어지고 섬세해진 전환점으로 평가받는다. 이전 작품들에서 두드러졌던 무거운 슬러지 메탈 사운드는 이번 앨범에서 한층 누그러지고, 멜로디와 감성에 더 많은 공간을 내어준다. 이는 청자에게 다소 의외의 방향일 수 있지만, 밴드의 내면적 변화와 성숙을 반영하는 흐름처럼 느껴진다. 앨범의 첫 번째 디스크인 Yellow는 여전히 강렬한 기타 리프와 에너지를 간직하고 있지만, Take My Bones Away나 March to the Sea와 같은 곡에서는 보다 정제된 구성과 선명한 멜로디가 중심을 잡고 있다. John Baizley의 보컬은 거칠지만 감정이 배어 있어, 곡에 인간적인 온도를 더해준다. 강렬함과 서정성 사이를 조율하는 균형 감각이 인상적이다. 두 번째 디스크인 Green에서는 분위기가 더욱 차분하고 내밀해진다. Very ambitious and good variety. It's not a perfect album and some tracks are so-so for me with the vocals sometimes not motivated enough. The bright spots on this album outshine the sun, especially the guitar melodies. Also, this is my favorite Baroness album cover. Overall, the album is dominated by peaceful soothing elements that make friends with rebellious rocky elements. A very special record.

전작들과 비교해 보면 거의 어덜트 컨템포러리 락 이라 해도 무방할 만큼 대중적인 곡들이 많이 수록되어 있는 앨범. 분명 거듭 듣게 되는 좋은 곡들이 많긴한데 앨범으로서의 응집력은 좀 떨어지고 난삽하게 느껴진다.

Great work of art. I really miss the early-day sludgy heaviness though. They definitely need some cranked up heaviness, but oh well.
