An Abstract Illusion na albume "The Sleeping City" ponúkajú kombináciu Melodického a Atmosférického Black Metal -u s Prog. Metal -om. Album má dobrý zvuk a strieda kľudnejšie (zasnené pasáže) s tvrdšími a priamočiarejšími. Hudbe dominuje rev (blackový krik), ktorý je doplnený o občasný melodický spev.

Many songs on An Abstract Illusion‘s new album have a tighter melodic backbone that helps their slow builds out by adding better context and flow.

These guys come back with an emotional powerhouse of an album. I'm not surprised considering their 2022 album, but this new one is probably a skosh better. The buzz is putting this near the top of 2025's metal releases, and for once I can agree. Of course death metal with a bit of black metal made extremely atmospheric is a great formula, and the new wave synth textures replete with their 80s signifier aspect work beautifully. Track 6 as a segue to Track 7 works like a charm.

An incredible album, with a perfect combination of progressive death metal and black metal influences, with very well-fitting vocal melodies and some guitar solos, as in the title track, which, by the way, is mt favorite metal song of the year.
