BTBAM, Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying, Six Feet Under등 미국과 유럽의 유명한 익스트림/뉴메탈 계열 밴드들이 소속된 Metal Blade Records산하의 밴드인 Across the Sun은 단순히 멜데스라 불리기에는 코어적인 요소가 상당히 많은 음악을 들려주고 있다. 미들템포에서 가끔 터져나오는 브레이크 다운과 We Came as Romans, The Human Abstract등 메탈코어밴드들이 사용하는 청명한 키보드 사운드가 가미된 형태를 보여주는 악곡이 그러하며, 북유럽식의 강렬하고 서정적인 멜데스 규격과는 동떨어진 모습을 보인다. 그럼에도 불구하고 Starkill의 데뷔앨범에서 느꼈던 것만큼 혼란스러운 구성이 아닌 정갈한 느낌을 주고 있으며, 특히 4번트랙 Ghost of Grandeur에서는 의외로 테크니컬한 리프에 멜로디를 얹어놓아 질주감을 향상시키고 있다. 클린보컬과 그로울링의 교차 및 다채로운 창법변화도 곡의 진행에 재미를 주고 있다. 코어와 멜데스 양측의 팬을 어느정도 만족시킬 만한 앨범.
