80년대 Heavy Metal을 말하면, 전통적으로 유럽권 밴드들은 항상 소외받아왔다. 이 지역 밴드들 중에 주목받은 밴드는 그다지 많지 않았다. 몇몇 밴드는 지역의 한계를 뚫고 대중음악의 중심지였던 영미권에서도 인정받았지만, 대다수의 밴드들은 큰 관심을 끌지 못했다. 특이하게 Thrash Metal씬에 유명한 밴드들이 몰려있었는데, 이 장르를 벗어난 80년대 태생의 유럽권 밴드들은 철저하게 비주류에 해당되었다. 네덜란드 출신의 밴드 Martyr도 주류에 속하지 못한 채로 생을 마감한 그룹중 하나였다. 하지만, 21세기에 접어들면서 정통 헤비 메탈 리바이벌이 불어닥치자 소수 마니아층에 의해 여러 한계로 묻히고 말았던 고전 헤비 메탈 밴드의 발굴붐이 일어났다.
