Fucking Roadrunner Records!!!
Thrash Metal 과 Death Metal 음반에서 Production 은 매우 중요하다. 특히 Death Metal 음반에서의 Production 이 Listener 에게 끼치는 영향은 실로 크다. Rick Rubin 이나 Chris Tsangarides 같이 전방위적으로 Production 을 하는 경우는 논외로 하고 한 Scene 의 영향을 행사했던 경우 Band 의 Identity 를 결정하거나 Album 의 분위기를 결정하는 것이 Production 에 의해서 이루어진다는 것이다.
그런데 애석하게도 Malevolent Creation 의 本作인 'Stillborn' 은 그들의 Identity 를 결정지은 Scott Burns 의 Production 을 거치지 못하였다. Malevolent Creation 이 원하였지만 Roadrunner Records 가 재정을 이유로 Scott Burns 의 Production 을 거부하였고 심지어 MorriSound Recording 에서의 녹음도 성사되지 못하였다. 재정을 이유로 거부한 결과 낮은 판매량과 혹평으로 이어졌고 Roadrunner Records 는 Malevolent Creation 을 해고하는 사태에 이르렀다. 지원을 하지 않은 것으로 말미암은 패착을 고스란히 Band 에게 뒤집어 씌운 것이 이 얼마나 웃긴 상황인가.
Scott Burns 과 MorriSound Recording 이라는 환경을 구성하지 못하는 악조건임에도 불구하고 Malevolent Creation 은 오로지 음악으로 악조건을 만회했다. Production 영향으로 전체적으로 前作 'Retribution' 에 비해 Technical 한 부분이 감쇄되어 보이나 절-후렴 ... See More
