Vinnie Moore는 80년대 속주 기타리스트를 언급할 때 항상 빠지지 않고 거론되는 인물 중 하나로 잘 알려져 있다. 그의 벼락같은 속주는 이 분야의 선두주자들이었던 Yngwie Malmsteen이나 Paul Gilbert 못지 않았다고 본다. 내가 Vicious Rumors의 데뷔 앨범 Soldiers of the Night를 듣게 된 계기도 전적으로 Vinnie Moore에 있다. 하지만 본작의 감상은 뭔가 애매한 평을 남길 수밖에 없게 한다. Soldiers of the Night 앨범 자체는 상당히 맘에 든다. 이 앨범은 마초이즘을 극단적으로 강조하는 Manowar나 야만적인 에너지가 들끓었던 Omen을 연상시키게 하는 구석이 있다. 남성적인 이미지를 워낙 강조하는지라 호불호가 갈릴 수도 있지만, 개인적으로는 Manowar와 Omen 모두 좋아하는 밴드라 비슷한 성향을 지닌 이 앨범 역시 상당히 잘 들었다. 하지만 이 앨범을 들을 때 기대했던 것은 Vinnie Moore의 섬광 같은 연주였다. 분명 작품의 전면에서 벼락 같은 속주는 곳곳에서 들을 수 있다. 하지만, 밴드와 Vinnie Moore는 어딘가 궁합이 맞지 않고 있다는 느낌이 강하게 든다. 아무래도 USPM 자체가 스피드를 강조하는 연주보다는 힘이 실린 연주쪽에 무게가 실리는 장르이다보니 아무래도 Vinnie Moore는 밴드에 적합하지 않았다고밖에 생각할 수 없게 한다. 그래도 Soldiers of the Night 자체 ... combination of old school Heavy / Power Metal. This album is all killer and no filler - highly worth getting, as it is timely even in the present time.

기타리스트 비니 무어가 참여한 비셔스 루머스의 데뷔작이다. 전체적인 곡 구성은 평이하다. 인상적인 리프나 멜로디를 찾기는 쉽지 않다. 뭐랄까 전형적인 미국의 구식 헤비메틀이다. 비니 무어의 수려한 솔로잉은 가끔 매력적이나 밴드의 음악을 전체적으로 빛나게 하는 수준은 아니다. 이는 랜디 로즈가 오지 오스본 전체를 돋보이게 했던 것과 매우 대비된다.
