Silent Force는 Royal Hunt 출신의 보컬리스트 D.C. Cooper와 독일 메틀씬에서 잔뼈가 굵은 Sinner 출신의 기타리스트 Alexander Beyrodt가 의기투합하여 발족시킨 밴드이다. 이 두사람이 뭉쳤다는 사실은 주로 유럽과 일본에 산재해 있는 파워메틀 팬들의 가슴을 설레게 했다. D.C. Cooper와 Alexander Beyrodt는 밴드 결성하고 1년여의 시간을 들여 그들의 데뷔 앨범 The Empire of Future를 제작했다. 사실 데뷔 앨범 이전에 나는 이들의 작품 중 가장 유명한 Worlds Apart를 먼저 들었다. 무척 실망스러운 작품이었다. 지나치게 남발한 멜로디로 쉽게 질리는 앨범으로 기억되었다. D.C. Cooper라는 보컬이 아니었다면 듣지 않았을 작품이었다. 밴드의 다른 앨범을 찾아 들을 가치가 없다고 생각했으나, 그래도 D.C. Cooper라는 보컬리스트에 대한 애정으로 결국 데뷔 앨범을 찾아 들었다. 이들의 작품 중 파워메틀 팬들에게 Worlds Apart가 가장 좋은 평가를 받는 경향이 있는데 개인적으로는 The Empire of Future가 낫다는 결론을 내렸다. 이 앨범은 파워메틀의 범주에 넣을 수 있겠지만, 실상은 그들이 존경하는 Judas Priest, Queensrÿche 같은 밴드들의 영향도 적지않게 드러나 있다. 그 결과 통상적인 파워메틀처럼 멜로디가 짜릿하지는 않다. 멜로디는 리스너에게 즉감적으로 인지되지는 ...
