헤비메탈을 왜 좋아하시나요? 저는 헤비메탈이 주는 새로운 청각적 경험을 좋아합니다. Metallica의 금속으로 꽉 채운 소리의 풍경(soundscape), Dream Theater의 구름 위를 걷는 느낌, 고딕메탈의 어둠과 청아함이 대비되는 분위기... 이들을 처음 들었을 때 귀로 접한 새로움이 충격적이었고, 그러한 청각적 충격을 계속 좇아왔습니다. 세상에 새로움은 유한하기에, 소유하는 앨범이 한 장 한 장 쌓일 수록, 제 나이가 한 해 한 해 먹을 수록, 그 새로움의 경험은 아쉽게도 점점 사라져갔습니다. 어쩌면 더이상 헤비메탈에 새로움이 생산되지 않는 시대이거나, 아니면 제가 새로움을 인식하지 못하고 익숙함만 찾는 세대가 된 것이 문제일 것입니다.
SikTh는 최근 10년 사이에 제가 접한 유일한, 그리고 마지막 청각적 충격이었습니다(앨범은 03년에 나왔지만 저는 07년에 처음 접했습니다). 새롭고 또 새롭습니다. 리듬(드럼과 베이스), 화성과 선율(트윈 기타), 가창(클린과 스크리밍) 등 모든 면에서 넘치는 창의력과 연주력, 재능이 날뜁니다. 하드코어 바탕에 프록메탈의 진보성이 더해졌습니다. 처음부터 끝까지 예측불가능의 연속으로, 다행스럽게도 (제 기준에서) Meshuggah와 달리 이해가능성의 선을 넘지 않았습니다. 즉, 기존의 헤비메탈의 문 ... See More

This album would be the optimum answer for the seekers who are looking for something weird and chaotic. This album is a landmark opus drawn based on progressive metal, metalcore and math metal with a banquet of bombarded technical playing. Apart from the fantastic technicality, the two different vocal styles employed by SikTh in this album sound fascinating, making this album sound more interesting. To conclude, this album is one of my all-time favourites.
