80년대를 대표하는 Progressive Metal의 명장 Fates Warning 출신의 보컬리스트 Ray Alder가 참여한 밴드라기에 이 밴드의 작품을 찾게 되었다. 그러던 중에 우연히 이들의 세 번째 앨범인 The Origins of Ruin을 구할 기회가 생겨 어떻게 손이 닿아 직접 듣게 되었다. 앨범은 Fates Warning을 현대적으로 각색한 듯하다고 해야할까. Fates Warning 특유의 드라마틱한 악곡 테마와 유기적인 흐름을 좇는 연주는 이 앨범에서 멋지게 소생했다. 그래서 그런지 프로그레시브 메탈의 대세인 Dream Theater와는 약간의 온도 차이가 느껴진다. 그래도 The Origins of Ruin은 현시대에 나온 작품이니만큼 Dream Theater의 영향에서 완전하게 자유로울 수는 없지만, 이 앨범이 일반적인 프로그레시브 메탈 밴드들과 차별화되고 있다고 봐도 무방할 것이다. Ray Alder라는 보컬의 네임밸류에 비한다면 Redemption은 너무 안 알려져 있는게 아닌가도 싶어서 약간 아쉽게 느껴지지만, 알게 된 사람은 이 앨범의 매력을 쉽게 느낄 수 있을 것이라 확신한다.
