2천년대 들어 차츰 세를 넓혀가던 Heavy Metal 리바이벌은 2010에 접어들면 전체 메탈씬에서 하나의 강력한 축으로 작용하고 있다해도 과언이 아니다. 스웨덴 출신의 Enforcer는 헤비 메탈 리바이벌에 편승한 밴드들 중에서도 가장 뛰어난 역량을 자랑하는 밴드이다. 데뷔 앨범 Into the Night를 시작으로 하여 두 번째 앨범 Diamonds까지 Enforcer는 80년대 헤비 메탈 팬들부터 새롭게 유입된 팬들에게까지 강렬한 인상을 남겨주었다. Diamonds로부터 3년이나 지난 뒤에 나온 후속작 Death by Fire에 헤비 메탈 팬들의 비상한 관심이 쏠리는 것은 당연했다. Death by Fire는 팬들의 그러한 기대를 충족시켜 주기에 부족함이 없는 작품이다. 복고적인 성향이 짙게 묻어나는 구성, 리프, 멜로디는 왜 헤비 메탈 팬들이 30년전 낡은 헤비 메탈에 대해 향수를 느끼는지에 대해 답변하고 있다. 다만 이 앨범이 아쉬운 점은 전작에 비해 발전된 모습이 없다고나 해야할까. 이들의 음악은 점점 진화한다. 데뷔앨범에서 보여준 통통튀는 스타일은 거의 사라지고, 8번과 같이 러닝타임이 긴 곡이 등장했다. 아이언메이든 1~3집의 행보를 그대로 보여주고 있어서 단 한번의 대박을 칠 경우, 곧바로 S급으로 올라가지 않을까 기대해본다.
