미국출신 드론/둠메틀밴드 Earth 의 2007년 컴필레이션 앨범입니다. 예전에 발표했던 3곡과 Sunn O))) 와의 2006년 스플릿앨범에서 한곡을 추려서 총 4곡으로 구성되어 있습니다. Earth 는 드론/둠 계열에서는 선구자적인 밴드로 알려져 있고 Sunn O))) 를 비롯한수많은 밴드들에게 영향을 미친 원조격 밴드라고 할 수 있습니다. 드론이 무슨 의미인지 궁금해서 드론(drone) 이라는 단어의 뜻을 찾아보니까 '단조로운 저음' 이라는 뜻을 가지고 있더군요. Earth 의 음악을 들어보시면 왜 Drone 이라고 하는지 이해하실 수 있을 겁니다. 정말 느릿느릿하고 단조롭기 그지없는 음악을 들려줍니다. 근데 묘한게 계속 듣다보면 인내심 혹은 오기 같은게 생겨서 끝까지 듣게 되더군요. 취향에 따라서 느릿느릿하고 재미없는 음악이라고 생각하실수도 있고 상당히 독특하고 뭔가 묘한 느낌이 든다고 생각하실 수도 있을 듯 합니다. 저는 후자쪽에 가까웠습니다.

To truly appreciate Drone, you need to be in the right mind set. Relaxed, think of nothing else than the music emanating through the amps. A euphoric experience will soon settle in.
