Rock Of Ages는 정말 히트곡만 담아 발표한 Vault를 대폭 보강한 베스트 앨범이다. Def Leppard의 전집을 모아놓고 있었기 때문에 이 앨범은 사실 굳이 살 필요가 없었다. 그러나 Def Leppard의 팬이라는 숙명 때문에 결국 구입하고 처박아 놓았다. 컬렉션이라는 측면에서는 무가치한 작품이지만, 그래도 베스트의 장점인 아무때나 듣기에는 참 좋은 앨범이다. 일단 앨범의 1번 Disc 1는 Vault의 구성을 거의 빼다 박았다. 진정한 의미에서 Disc 1야말로 베스트 앨범이라 할 수 있겠다. Disc 2는 밴드의 최고 히트곡을 추리고 남은 곡들을 수록한 디스크다. 그러나 Disc 2에 실린 곡들이라 해서 무시할만한 퀄리티는 아니다. Pop Metal 밴드로서 Def Leppard는 80년대 유일무이하게 Bon Jovi의 아성을 위협할 만한 밴드였다. 밴드 본인들에게나 2선급 곡들이지 Disc 2에 실린 곡들마저도 어지간히 능력있는 팝 메탈 밴드들이 만든 곡 정도는 웃돌고도 남는다. 보통 베스트 앨범은 밴드의 음악을 즐기는 본인들이 만들어야 제 맛이다. 베스트 앨범은 밴드가 선정한 곡들이 주로 수록되기 때문에 리스너의 취향과 어긋나는 경우는 무수히 많다. 그것 때문에 음반 수집가들이 베스트 앨범을 수집하지 않는 이유 중 하나이다. 그러나 이 베스트 앨범은 팬의 입장에서 봤을 때 ...
