Bathory is back at it again with more of the same for their sophomore album. The differences between this and the debut are minimal; same terrible production quality, same evil riffs and lyrics, same snarling screams. Which is good, because the first album succeeded in all these aspects. The songs stay almost exclusively fast tempo, and the drumming definitely sounds more controlled. The good stuff isn’t really better than their debut, but it definitely sounds like the album is more consistent, with almost no weak moments throughout. Bathory would later go on to pioneer new genres of metal, but here they stick to their original style, and there’s not much else to say about it.

First Wave Of Black Metal 밴드 Bathory의 두번째 정규앨범으로 첫 정규앨범에 비해 조금 더 Black Metal에 가까운 Riff를 갖추고 돌아온 앨범이다. 전작의 분위기를 그대로 계승했고 나아진 녹음상태가 귀를 훨씬 편하게 만들어줬다. 곡마다 다르게 차용된 Riff를 사용하기도 하도 하는데 Heavy Riff와 Thrash Riff의 잔재가 군더더기 발견된다.
아쉽게도 Vocal line과 Riff는 전작에 비해 나은 소리를 들려주지만 곡 구성 전체적으로 신경 쓰이는 부분들이 귀에 거슬리기도 했다. 반복적인 Riff의 지루함을 견뎌줄 귀에 쏙 꽂히지 않는 Riff 진행과 Guitar Solo가 분위기에 어울리지도 않거니와 불경스러운 Vocal line은 곡 흐름에 맞지 않게 부르기도 한다. 특히나 제일 거슬렸던 건 지나치게 단조롭고 Rhythm 구성에 신경을 거의 쓰지 않은 듯한 Drum은 더욱 듣는 내내 답답함을 느꼈다.
첫 정규앨범에 비해 나은 사운드를 들려준 건 사실이지만 극단적이라고 분위기만으로 음악의 비중을 차지하기에는 구성면에서 많이 아쉬웠다.

3집의 빛에 가려진 앨범?이라고해도 좋은 Bathory 의 2집 입니다.3집의 사운드의 실험단계?라고 해도 좋은 테크니컬한 기타와 함께 어두운 보이스 가 자켓의 느낌?에 맞게 나타내어 줍니다.특히 둔탁하면서 건조한 전개속에 조금씩 흐르는 멜로디는 3집에서 보여지는 더욱더 자연스럽게 흐르는 걸 보여줍니다. 하모니가 모순이 없이 잘 맞게 이어지지만,딱딱한 드럼이 약간 아쉬웠습니다.

I really love this one - how it sets the mood with the effects at the beginning and with that harsh minimalism. I get more emotion out of this one than the 3rd album. I guess most people disagree with me, maybe this album is just more my style.

대단히 희뿌연 음질에 감상이 곤란합니다. 그렇다고 음악은 좋냐하면, 85년에 나온것이라는 부분도 감안은 하겠으나, 단조로운 진행에 이거 언제 끝나는지 기다리는 심정으로 한트랙 한트랙이 지나갑니다. 스래쉬 리프 조금 있다고 뭐가 달라지지는 않네요. 블랙메탈의 기원에 있어서 역사적 의의, 정체성, 영향력 등을 따져보겠다해도 더좋은 작품 많기도 하고...

1985년이라는 시간적 한계를 감안할 필요 없이 지금 들어도 충분히 블랙메탈 그 자체다. 이 앨범을 듣고서야 왜 사람들이 Bathory를 블랙메탈의 시초니 어쩌니 하는 말에 처음 고개를 끄덕였다. 2020년 지금 들어도 대단하다. 좋게 말하자면 블랙메탈의 본질적인 것을 형성했다는 것일 수도 있겠고 블랙메탈 씬 전체로 보자면 이 앨범의 정체성을 넘어서기 어렵다는 점

이 작품은 무수했던 80년대 블랙메탈 밴드들 가운데서 Bathory가 세컨드 웨이브에 지대한 영향을 끼친 밴드라는 점을 시사해주는 앨범. 간간히 스래쉬적인 리프가 보이긴 하지만 한 발 앞서나간 리프들도 적지않아 있다. 대단한 작품.

딱 귀에 꽂히는 트랙은 없지만, 다 모아서 연결시켜 놓으면 전체를 관통하는 거대한 획이있다, 이렇게 앨범전체를 감싸는 분위기를 갖추기는 쉽지않다,
