1982년 미국 코네티컷에서 결성된 Fates Warning은 84년 Metal Blade 레이블의 컴필레이션 음반에 참여하며 모습을 드러냈다. 같은해에 데뷔작 NIght On Brocken을 발표하였으며 85년의 The Spectre Within, 86년의 Awaken the Guardian을 내놓으며 Progressive Metal의 초석을 다진 이들이 새로운 보컬리스트 Ray Alder를 맞이하여 공개한 4집음반이 본작 No Exit이다. 전작에 비해 곡의 러닝타임이 길어진 만큼, 타이트한 맛은 줄어들었으며 극적인 구성에 초점이 모아져있다. Fates Warning이 추구하는 드라마틱함의 정점이라 평가되는 21분여의 대곡 The Ivory Gate Of Dreams등을 담고 있다. 트윈기타 시스템으로 구현한 Art Metal.
